Justice
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust has offered a feeble and nonsensical apology to Narcosis patients through Jon Stock’s newly published ‘The Sleep Room’ The Bridge Street Press 2025.
The apology seems to have been written by someone with very little understanding of Narcosis Treatment. What for example is the ‘sleep service’. This makes it sound as if Dr Sargant was doing everyone a favour.
As for the excuse that “we do not hold any records from this time” – as late as 2018 a Narcosis patient was able to obtain part of her 1973 medical records from St Thomas’, which had been stored on microfiche.
The Ward 5 Association is pleased that the Trust has finally acknowledged “the impact that these treatments may have had on patients and their families” and if this is so, then we look forward to compensation for the suffering endured by Narcosis patients from either the Trust itself or from The Department of Health.
The Ward 5 Association will shortly begin it’s campaign for justice for survivors of Narcosis Treatment and will include those who were treated in units other than Ward 5 at The Royal Waterloo.
